City Feed

Using Twitter to Talk to your City.

The Happn.in City Feeds allow Twitter Users to interact directly with their city. Rather than a collection of unfocused Tweets, the Happn.in Feed allows you to send out a message directly to your city; as well as receive messages directly from people in your city. Using the Happn.in Feed, you could:

  • Tell people in your community about a great restaurant at which you just ate.
  • Tell people in your community about a crappy restaurant at which you just ate.
  • Advertise your band's show.
  • Ask advice for weekend activities.
  • Get recommendations for a plumber.
In all these cases, you are talking to people you live with; who might actually go to the restaurant you recommend, or see your band's show.

How to Use The City Feed

On each city page, there's a text-box you can use just like you would any Twitter client - write your message and send it out to your city. All the messages are displayed on the city page alongside the current top local twitter trends.

You can also Talk to Your City from another Twitter client by adding your city's Happn.in hash-tag to any tweet. The hashtag is just #hi_yourcity - where yourcity is the name of your actual city.

Recommending (or Not Recommending) the Tweets

In order to maintain the quality of the conversation within the Happn.in feed, you can recommend or strike down each individual Tweet that's added there.

Recommend Tweets

For instance, a Tweet that's not relevant to your city, or is just blatant advertising can be minimized (and eventually removed from) the feed by clicking the minus button. Tweets that offer interesting, good contributions to the city conversation can be highlighted by clicking the plus button. The running tally is displayed above the Tweet.

Every month, the person with the most recommended Tweets will be awarded the title and duties of Town Crier.

The Happn.in City Feed addresses the problem of Twitter as a good Broadcast Tool, something we've discussed on our blog. The basic idea is that Twitter becomes a lot more useful as a communication tool if you know to whom you are Tweeting.
